LEED and the Kilton Library
How will the Kilton Library qualify for LEED certification? and why is this process important?
The architects, consultants, and library officials have identified several areas in which the new Kilton Library will follow the tenets of LEED certification, and, in the process, create a much more responsible and sustainable building, both as it is built and as it is operated for the years to come.
The Kilton Library has chosen to build and operate its new building in accordance with the guidelines of the LEED certification program because LEED-certified buildings:
- Have lower operating costs
- Have a higher asset value
- Send less waste to the local landfill
- Conserve both energy and water
- Are healthier and safer buildings for their occupants
- Reduce the greenhouse gas emissions they produce
- Show the commitment of the library and city administration to good environmental stewardship and a high level of social responsibility
