Heating and Cooling

LEED sun icon image: The heating system for the new Kilton library will use a Geothermal Heat Pump System for the building heat. This makes use of the heat stored deep underground in the earth, pumping that heat out of the ground to supply the heat for the building at very high efficiencies and with no burning of fossil fuels.

A pellet fuel boiler in the new library will supply the heat for hot water. Pellet fuel is compressed material that is created from waste wood products, and, because it is locally produced, involves none of the shipping over long distances that oil or other fossil fuels would require.

Shown here is an overview of the geothermal heating system planned for the Kilton Library. The geothermal system makes use of the naturally-occurring heat found underground in the earth, pumping that heat out of the ground to supply the heat for the building at very high efficiencies and with no burning of fossil fuels.
