Change has swirled around the West Lebanon Public
Library since it opened almost 100 years ago.
The modest brick building at the junction of
Main Street and Railroad Way is the last
downtown building still serving its original
purpose.
Despite this proud record of community
service, recent studies show no way to
adapt the present structure to the needs
of a growing community. Instead, plans
are ready to replace it with an exciting
new library.
The Kilton Public Library will provide the
latest advances in library technology,
expanded space for the collections, and
much-needed community services. It will
be a catalyst in West Lebanon's civic
revitalization.
The Kilton Public Library will be a
major architectural addition to downtown West Lebanon. Centrally located,
easily accessible, and with ample parking, plans for the library are based on
a twenty-year vision. More than just a
collection of books, it will offer citizens
exciting resources, including:
- A large community room for gatherings
and voting.
- An expanded collection of books, dvds,
and other materials.
- Quiet reading areas throughout the
building.
- Inviting outdoor courtyard and reading
garden.
- Access to advanced information
technology.
- Gallery space for art exhibits.
- Group study rooms.
- A teen activities area.
- A children's library, with story and craft
rooms.
- Significant capacity for storage and
expansion.
- Energy efficient one-story design.
